We will be highlighting one room a week to help get out information as we get our online reservation system up and running. Today we feature: ALDERMAN ROOM
The land in which Humbird now stands was once owned by Almond Alderman. It was covered with oak timber and tamarack. When news broke that a railroad was to be built through the area, Alderman donated the land in 1869 to help create a town that could support a station and take advantage of this new method of transportation for the area.
Without Almond Alderman, we wouldn’t have the mean streets of Humbird that later hosted the likes of Al Capone as he traveled Highway 12 from Chicago up to his hideaway in Couderay, WI. In conjunction with stories of Capone in town and the surrounding areas, as well as us uncovering evidence of this building being a Speakeasy in the basement, it stands to reason that this location was part of his moonshining trafficking activities.
The Alderman Room features two full size beds, a 32 inch TV and period furniture in a monochromatic art deco setting. Its paranormal activity can be divulged to those who are interested.
The Alderman Room is available for $99 a night regular price for two people with a $20 per person charge for each additional person up to four people, subject to change with events, seasonal traffic etc. Please note, due to the age of the building and to preserve historical integrity, there are two shared bathrooms utilized by all staying in the hotel. No accommodations can be made for private baths.
Loyalty to the family is rewarded and snitches get stitches.
