Jacob Humbird, along with his son John A Humbird, built several rail lines from Brazil all the way to British Columbia, Canada, including the line just a stone’s throw from us. Humbird, WI is the only known location named for him and his efforts.
Born in Pennsylvania in 1811, he constructed the Brazilian Railroad in 1859, then moved up here to construct the West Wisconsin Railway and the North Wisconsin Railway. He then partnered with Frederick Weyerhaeuser to create The White River Lumber Company and Weyerhaeuser and Denkmann. He and Weyerhaeuser then pushed up into the Northwest to continue rail and Lumber operations, creating The Victoria Lumber and Manufacturing Company and The Humbird Lumber Company in Sandpoint, Idaho.
Jacob and John’s descendants reside in the Northwest region of the US and Western Canada. During the 4th of July 2024, we were privileged to meet several of his family members when they came to visit us here in Humbird for the first time.
The HUMBIRD SUITE is themed with railroad memorabilia in a Victorian aesthetic featuring a king size Purple bed, perfect for couples or singles desiring more room. It features a 70 inch TV and chaise lounge. It is one of our premier rooms in the property.
The HUMBIRD SUITE is available for $129 a night, for a two person occupancy. An additional charge of $20 per person per night for up to three people. All room rates subject to change with events, seasonal traffic etc.
Please note, due to the age of the building and to preserve historical integrity, there are two shared bathrooms utilized by all staying in the hotel. No accommodations can be made for private baths.
